The last day of ‘Sakal Swasthyam’ had many interesting sessions. One of them was by actor-couple Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh. The Marathi film ‘Ved’ directed by Riteish is all set to release soon. It is produced by Riteish and Genelia and they also play the lead pair in it. The couple started their session ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ by singing the trending song ‘Ved Tujhe Virah Vanwa’ from the film. “I had decided that my first film as a director would be Marathi. Therefore, I made my debut as a director with this film,” Riteish said and the audience applauded. Although it is a ‘youthful’ film, the entire family will love the film, Genelia assured.
The duo dwelt on relationships, stress, healthy lifestyle, etc. “We must find happiness in every relationship – with parents, siblings, friends, and so on. We should think about how we can put a smile on other faces. The key to a successful relationship is being able to enjoy every moment with your partner,” the couple said.
Values inculcated by parents
Riteish said that the values they are living by were taught by their parents. “Once our family was in London and we went to a mall. I went to a store to gift my father (Vilasrao Deshmukh) with his favourite shoes. When I came out of the store, I found him checking shoes in another store that had a ‘sale’ board. ‘Here, I can get three shoes for the price of your one shoe,’ my father said. That day, I learned the difference between price and value,” Riteish said.
He also recalled another incident. “As a child, I was fond of watching films but I had not yet decided to make a career in it. The opportunity to act in a film came my way unexpectedly. My father was the chief minister of the state at that time. So I was worried that if the film flopped or if people didn’t like my work, my father’s name would be tarnished. When I told him about it, he said, ‘I take care of my reputation, you take care of yours.’ I still remember that sentence,” said Riteish.
The couple rocks on social media
Riteish and Genelia’s funny reels often go viral on social media. While explaining how it all started, they said, “During the Corona period, everyone was at home and there was widespread depression. Many had lost their loved ones. There were no new means of entertainment available. So, we came up with the idea of making reels to put a smile on people’s faces. But while doing that, we make sure that we crack jokes on ourselves and never on others.”
‘Maharashtrian diet is perfect’
“We used to be non-vegetarians. But with a lifestyle change six years ago, we first went vegetarian and then four years ago, we turned vegan. Of course, it is difficult to implement until you get used to it, but once you do, it seems very easy,” said Riteish. To this, Genelia added, “Maharashtra’s food culture is perfect. These days, we are hearing different terms being used regarding diet. Like, we are told to eat millets. But that’s what makes Bhakri. We are told to have proteins. But that’s what peanut chutney is all about. In short, our traditional diet is right for a healthy lifestyle.”
Riteish and Genelia’s tips for a healthy relationship
- Relationships will undergo changes. People will also change. These changes should be accepted positively.
- Don’t mess up things in an attempt to commit to a relationship. Don’t decide things in advance. Go with the flow.
- Don’t give yourself deadlines as a woman, don’t stress yourself.
- Don’t burden the relationship with expectations. A relationship without expectations brings more joy.
- Don’t invest in clothes, shoes, etc. Instead, invest in education, personality development and health.
- Time is most precious than any gift. So spend time with family and create memories with them that will last forever.
- No matter how big the mistake by another person, learn to forgive them. This will reduce your stress.
- Live in the present rather than spend time thinking about the future.
- Openly express love for your parents. Make it a point to tell them how important they are in your life.
